Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), Africa Agricultural Science Week (AASW) meeting, Accra Ghana-15-20 July, 2013
Staff from CAVs, led by the Principal Professor, Agnes Mwang’ombe, will attend theForum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), Africa Agricultural Science Week (AASW) meeting in Accra Ghana beginning 15th July, 2013. Every three years, FARAorganizes a week-long continental gathering of all stakeholders involved in AfricaAgricultural development. This year’s meeting, which will be held in Accra Ghana, will bring together representatives of FARA’s constituents including African and non-AfricanInstitutions involved in African agricultural research and development such as the Sub-regional organizations (SRO’s-ASARECA, CORAF/WECARD, CCARDESA and NASRO),Farmers and pastoralists’ organizations, Agricultural Research Institutions, Agricultural Education Institutions, including Universities, Non-governmental Organizations working in Agriculture, policy makers and private enterprises, national agricultural Research centers, Non-African Advanced Research Institutions (ARIs), International Agricultural Research Centers (IARCs), International NGO’s, private sector, ministries of Agriculture,education, science and technology, national and regional parliamentary sub-committees on agriculture and Africa’s development partners.
This is one of the premier forums on African Agriculture and offers an opportunity to network and showcase promising innovations related to Agricultural Development. The AASW will be officially opened by H.E. John Dramani, the president of Ghana. Keynote addresses by other Heads of state and government expected include from H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, president of Tanzania, H.E. Paul Kagame of Rwanda, and H.E. AlassaneOutarra, President of Cote d’Ivoire.
The other CAVS participants include Prof. Kiarie Njoroge and DR. Kinama Josiah Mwivandi from Department of Plant Science and Crop Protection.
