Seed Enterprise Management Institute (SEMIs)

SEMIs is a new initiative under the Programme for Africa’s Seed Systems (PASS) in AGRA. The role of SEMIs is to provide capacity in the form of training to the seed industry so as to enhance seed production and seed delivery systems within sub-Saharan Africa

COURSES

Short courses are for skill enhancement

These courses are in modular format and include ;

Seed production
Seed Drying, Processing and Storage
Seed Business Management
Seed Marketing
crop seed production field diagnostics
plant protection organization (NPPO’s) quality regulators
seed quality assurance and seed enterprise quality management

Who should attend

These courses is intended for persons dealing in the production of certified seed in seed companies

Good understanding of seed production management and quality assurance regulations to achieve seed production goal
Analytical and interactive ability to enable sound planning and implementation of seed production enterprise

Ability to diagnose seed production problems and determination and application of practical solutions
managerial capacity in design and implementation of seed production sterategies

registration for this course is limited to 30 persons only, and will be on fist come basis

Course and Registration Fees

Registration fees: $ 40, tuition: $ 500, Laboratory and Field: $ 100, Field visit to seed industry: $ 100, Stationery: $ 40

Accommodation:

Bed and Breakfast:$ 840,

Participants will be accommodated in a pleasant environment, a few minutes’ drive from the University

Meals

Lunch and tea: $160. Lunch, and tea at 1000 and 1600 hours will be served at the venue of the training

Transportation:

Daily transportation to and from the hotel and University and, pickup from and drop-off to, the airport: $ 70

Note: Total Cost for the course is$ 1850 for local participants. Add 20% for international participants(= $ 2220)

Kindly note the above charges are not inclusive of personal allowance and health insurance. Please make personal arrangements.

AGRA-Grantees:

For project-sponsored participants, AGRA will take care of all costs inclusive of travel, course and registration fees, and accommodation

Location:

The short course on seed production will be held at University of Nairobi, at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Services (CAVS), Upper Kabete campus .You will get details of the location on arrival.

In case of any special needs like disability, kindly inform the organizers one week prior to arrival for prior arrangements.
